flip

bend

Two ways a thing can change and remain itself. One turns it over. The other lets it curve. This page is about both.

I. — flip /flɪp/ · verb

To turn over.

A flip is total and sudden. What faced the ground now faces the sky; the hidden side becomes the only side. Nothing is added or removed — only the orientation changes, and with it, everything you can see.

Ideas flip too. A flaw reads as a feature. An ending reads as a start. The facts stay put; the question you were asking turns upside down.

II. — bend /bɛnd/ · verb

To curve without breaking.

A bend is gradual and continuous. The thing stays whole, but its shape starts answering to pressure — wind, weight, time, another person.

To bend is to admit the world pushes back, and to let that pushing become part of your form instead of the reason you crack.

III. — flipbend · the compound

Sudden, then slow.

Real change is rarely one or the other. Something turns over in an instant — a sentence, a diagnosis, a dawn — and then you spend months, or years, bending your life around what the turning revealed.

The flip shows you the other side. The bend is how you learn to live there.

IV. — a small practice

Try it on one thought.

Hold

Pick one thing you are sure of — about yourself, someone else, or how the world works. Write it as a single sentence.

Flip

Turn it over. State its opposite as if you believed it. Ask what would have to be true for that version to make sense.

Bend

Don’t choose a side. Let the original curve a little toward what the flip showed you, and keep what survives.

Same words, other way up. Notice what changes.

Nothing here is for sale. It is only a place to stand upside down for a moment — and to come back a little curved.
